University of Deusto
Inaugurated in 1886, the University of Deusto was born from the interests of the people of Vizcaya and the Jesuits. The religious order has headed the institution since its foundation. In 1963 the University´s Faculty of Law and Faculty of Philosophy and Letters received official recognition by the State. The University of Deusto has also played a relevant role in the fields of Business Management and Administration, Engineering, Tourism, Social Sciences, and Communication.
Following official recognition, the student body grew considerably, along with Deusto faculties, university schools, institutes and professorships in both the Bilbao and San Sebastian campuses. In 2007-2008 the University of Deusto had 671 teaching and research staff and nearly 10,500 students, more than 5% from other countries. The University offers 31 undergraduate and over 100 postgraduate degree programmes.
