PROJECT TourisTEK

(ETORTEK Programme)

Analysis of the the transforming impact of the internet on tourism, particularly with regard to technology and mobility. This project takes an in-depth look at ubiquitous computing and contextual computing, two technological systems that may prove to be pivotal within the tourism sector in providing travellers with services and information.

Objectives:
  • Middleware technology and platforms.
  • Persuasive Computing and Emotional Computing.
  • Security, privacy and trust.
  • New methods for measuring and analysing tourism flows.
Partners:

CICtourGUNE, University of Deusto, Robotiker-TECNALIA, University of the Basque Country, Vicomtech-IK4, ESI-TECNALIA.

Subproject a) Modelling tourism information systems at the sub-regional level.

Developing a business intelligence system for supporting decision-making by public managers.

The scope of this project covers the complete cycle, from the generation of primary data to balanced scoreboards or dashboards. Tasks include recommendations to the Basque Statistics Office (EUSTAT) in areas such as stratification, selection of variables, levels of disaggregation, etc; identification of different origins of data relevant to decision-making such as INE (National Statistics Institute), IET (Institute of Tourism Studies), airports, museums, etc.; the integration of data sources into an analytical data warehouse, extraction process automation, transformation and loading, creation of front-end analysis and, lastly, the application of prediction models (econometric models, time series) that enable us to forecast tourism demand indicators.

Subprojec (b): eGISTOUR

GIS platform for measurement, analysis, and monitoring of visitor flows.

The project aims to achieve the following goals:

  • Understand the space-time consumption of visitors at a given destination.
  • Identify the most and least frequented places.
  • Determine visitor behaviour patterns.
  • Identify problem areas in mobility patterns.

Subprojec (c): Modeling and Context Management

KUDEATUR:System comprising a web application and a mobile application for creating, editing and consulting online tourism resources.

LIVECITIES: System for sending contextual related posts to mobile devices.

PHOENIX: Middleware for the development of event-based systems. The aim of the project is to develop high-performance, flexible communications infrastructure for the development of mobility services software.
