PROJECT ERNEST

Ernest – European Research Network on Sustainable Tourism – is an ERA-NET product funded by the EU Seventh Framework Programme.

For the first time, a large group of regions and other organizations have undertaken steps to strengthen the contribution of sustainable practices to the competitiveness of destinations. The project addresses the issue of sustainable development of the tourism sector through coordination and collaboration among regional research and development programmes, and through coordination of bodies belonging to each region taking part in the Ernest consortium.

Objectives:
  • To exchange information and knowledge about regional structural and research programmes connected to tourism.
  • To identify within the research programmes elements associated with social dialogue and measuring the impact of tourism.
  • To define and implement joint research activities on sustainable tourism based on common needs, paying particular attention to education, information exchange and evaluation at the interregional level.
  • To finance interregional research on sustainable tourism through joint funding schemes.
  • To promote efficient regional and interregional cooperation, including public-private collaboration.
  • To define long-term common strategies in line with EU policy in the area of sustainable development and tourism.
